The end of winter, and the Arctic is slowly waking from months of bitter cold and darkness. In this still, frozen wonderland temperatures begin to rise and light floods back from the south. In what must be the most beautiful time of year, Tunu will spend April with the Inuit of Kulusuk, experiencing their way of life and learning how they have gracefully adapted to this challenging environment and made it their home.

Amid the towering mountains and dramatic frozen fjords, Kulusuk will be our base for these 10 day trips. Living with local Inuit families, the first days of our stay in Greenland offers a unique opportunity to spend time with these quiet but hospitable people. In an environment that seems so wild and powerful, its people go about it with an innate sense of ease and understanding borne of the experience of countless generations.

Having gained an insight into community life, and a little experience with the dogs, we will embark on a three-day dogsled expedition into the fjordlands of Tunu. Accompanied by Inuit hunters, and keeping warm beneath a pile of furs, we will make our way by dogsled to a series of overnight stops. Pitching camp on the hauntingly beautiful sites of ancient Inuit settlements, we will enjoy well prepared meals in our heated tents before stepping outside to gaze at the unworldly colours of the Northern Lights. Life on the ice cannot be adequately described. At times utterly serene, at others thrilling, but most often simply awe-inspiring. Our time alone amongst the grandeur of East Greenland perfectly rounds off our experience of Inuit life at the edge of World.

Please note that due to severe weather conditions that can occur in mountainous and high-latitude environments, and unforeseen poor snow and sea ice conditions, all of our itineraries are subject to alteration at short notice.
