Few places on Earth show such a marked transformation between Spring and Summer. In a matter of weeks the snows retreat to the highest peaks and the sea ice breaks and is swept away overnight by the tides to leave a landscape of tundra dotted with Saxifrage and Cotton Grass, Bilberries and the smallest Willows you'll ever see. The sea, flecked white by icebergs, reflects the deep blue sky with a dark jagged line of peaks separating the two. Wildlife abounds with foxes and hares, noisy Arctic Terns determinedly defending their nests, Trout teaming in mountain streams, and Polar Bears conspicuously white against a backdrop of green and brown.

Summer in Greenland is a wonderful time and we will enjoy long, luxuriously warm days and short, crystal clear nights. The sun barely sets. When it does you can be assured of memorable sunsets, often followed by dazzling displays of the Northern Lights. Our 14-day trips provide a unique opportunity to get to know this wild island and her people. For the first few days we shall spend time in and around the village, living with the Inuit and learning their ways.

Boarding a small boat we then head north, deep into the fjords of Tunu. Two or three 'base-camps' will be established in remote valleys and all equipment shall be moved between these by boat. At each camp we shall spend a few days enjoying relaxed day-long walks exploring the local landscape, wildlife and history, returning to our tents at the end of each day. We shall come across abandoned Inuit settlements, and wonder what times must have been like here long ago. There will be time for fishing in the fjords and streams, and time to gather wild berries, all of which can be enjoyed as part of our well prepared evening meals. A final boat ride takes us to our last campsite at Sermiligâp qingertivâ - an Arctic masterpiece of power and beauty where five enormous glaciers calve icebergs into the sea. A fitting end to our time amongst the grandeur of Tunu. Trekking in Arctic regions is often associated with heavy loads, difficult terrain, long distances and sore feet. We have done all we can to remove these burdens, allowing you to focus on absorbing the spirit of the place.

Day 1 Travelling UK - Iceland. Overnight in a private guest house in Reykjavik city centre. A visit to the geothermal pools may be possible (not included in price).

Day 2 Travelling Iceland - Kulusuk, Greenland. Flight on a small Fokker twin-prop plane across the Denmark Strait and countless icebergs. Transfer by boat to village and time to explore.

Day 3 Walk into the interior of Kulusuk Island. Lunch and an informal talk on the area's history and culture with a local historian and ethnologist.

Day 4 Pack the boats and set a course northwards to begin our exploration of Tunu. We land at the head of a beautiful valley and establish our first camp.

Days 5-6 Exploration by foot in the local area, and the chance to fish for trout and salmon. Our Inuit partners meet us in the evening of Day 6 and we move by boat to our next camp.

Days 7-8 Settle into our new camp and continue our exploration.

Days 9-10 Back on the boats, we head further northwards to Sermiligâp qingertivâ - a grand Arctic arena where five glaciers reach down to the sea. We shall camp near the snout of the magnificent Kârale Glacier.

Day 11 Returning south on the boats to Kulusuk. There may be time to stop at the Inuit settlement of Sermiligaaq on the way.
